Dog catching, as an industry, hasn't really taken hold in Thailand. As a result, there are packs of roaming street dogs almost everywhere you go. You might hear them referred to as "soi dogs," since soi is the Thai word for small street.
Understand that these dogs are 100% feral and should not be engaged, no matter how much of a dog lover you might be. However, avoiding them isn't terribly difficult since soi dogs do a fairly good job of staying out of people's way. In fact, they are extremely traffic-savvy, and know exactly when and where to cross the street. They also somehow manage to go to the bathroom away from public areas, so keeping the soles of your shoes clean is relatively easy.
