Underwater World

Snorkeling and scuba diving off the Phuket shoreline is a memorable experience, thanks to the beautiful and varied marine life.  The waters are crystal clear and visibility is excellent.  Because the island of Phuket is located in the tropical belt, the waters here are deliciously warm, making your under water experience that much more enjoyable.  Though the waters are clear throughout the year and you can plan an underwater adventure any time, visibility is best in the months between October and April.  Tourists can choose from any number of dive shops that organize snorkeling and scuba diving expeditions.  There are day trips as well as “live aboard trips.”   

On a day trip, you can expect to travel a short distance off the coast of Phuket to a few dive spots.  Typically these trips will cost between 1500 Baht to 3000 Baht.  Live aboard trips, on the other hand, can last between 3 to 10 days and the prices vary accordingly.  The rates are lower for tourists who prefer to watch from the boat, without actually getting into the water. On board the ship, you can relax, take in the salty sea breeze, and enjoy fresh seafood while diving enthusiasts mingle with the aquatic life below. The most important thing to remember while snorkeling or scuba diving in Phuket is to use lots of sun block.  There are also flying and drinking restrictions you need to observe if you plan to go scuba diving.  Your instructor or school should be able to fill you in on any necessary details.
